2-Hydroxyethyl Methacrylate (HEMA)
HEMA is produced for the use as monomer for production of polymers and as intermediate for synthesis of other methacrylate esters. The substance ismanufactured in industrial settings in closed systems and used by industry for manufacture of polymers in closed and semi-closed systems.
Downstream use of HEMA is almost exclusively in the form of polymer although some products used by professionals and hobbyists may contain significant quantities of the liquid monomer.
Polymer based products of HEMA that we see and use every day are thermosetting paints, adhesion promoters for polymers, hydrophilic polymers, light-curing polymer systems, textile fiber grating and component for lubricant additives to name but a few.

Application
HEMA is a key hydroxy-functional monomer used in coatings/resins (two-component coatings, high-end automotive paints for gloss/adhesion/weather resistance), biomedicine (contact lenses, dental fillings, artificial organs via biocompatibility), daily chemicals (cosmetics for viscosity/texture/longevity, textile adhesives), and other industries (plastic resins, lubricant additives, electron microscope dehydrants, UV-curable adhesive reactive diluents).
