Polyethyl Silicate

This product is a hydrolyzed and oligomerized form of ethyl silicate. It is a mixture of monomers, dimmers, timers and cyclic polysiloxanes. The average degree of polymerization is five siloxane, or –Si-O-Si- units, it is a ethyl silicate with a silicon dioxide content of approximately 40 - 42 % upon complete hydrolysis, and the average molecular weight is 750. Inorganic binder, UV stable.

Application

  • It can be applied neat, diluted or as part of a formulated product. 
  • Applied to natural stones or other construction materials, it forms a silica-gel like binder (SiO2) that increases the substrate strength. 
  • Polymerization of silicone resins for use in paints and other surface modification applications intermediate for sol-gel process. 
  • For the manufacture of sealant materials RTV-2, it can be used as a cross-linking agent.
  • On glass and plastic lens materials, it provides a scratch-resistant, hard-coat to the finish.
